ADDING CHARM WITH MOULDINGS

We are always looking for simple, cost-effective ways to update a space, new or old. There are many ways to do this, however one of our favourite ways is by adding moulding to walls and ceiling applications.

We are LOVING Metrie’s Complete Pre-Painted Shiplap for both these reasons. Metrie’s Shiplap comes pre-painted so all you need to do is measure, cut and its ready to install! We recommend this for those looking for an easy DIY project to transform their home. Shiplap can be very versatile; it can be used on walls & ceilings, installed horizontally or vertically depending on what look you’re going for. The shiplap can also be added to the back of open cubbies or used as a kitchen backsplash to add an extra touch of detail. With the addition of texture, it can take a basic room and make it a custom dream!

Even though Metrie’s Complete primed Shiplap comes Pre-finished white, just add paint to showcase different colours and create a dramatic focal point. This creates visual texture & contrast in a room which we love to do.

Not only do we love shiplap, we love using different mouldings to create details on walls ceilings and posts. Mouldings used to be thought of as a more traditional design approach, however, now they can be used in many design styles. Metrie has great collections of moulding that will match any style you are after.

Mouldings applied to walls can be installed on the whole area of the wall or halfway up, also known as wainscoting. We love creating feature walls using the floor to ceiling method by covering one wall with moulding. For instance, in bedrooms we’ve created detailed walls to act as the headboard feature. We even add different punches of colour to make it more personalized.

There are many unique ways of using moulding such as fireplace mantels and coffered ceilings. Fireplaces can be framed out with moulding to create mantels rather than doing a flush tile approach. We also love drawing the eye to the ceiling with a dramatic coffered ceiling.

Mouldings can be more detailed and complex then shiplap but don’t let that scare you. Metrie’s website will guide you in the right direction. If you go to their Finishing Collections or Option products and click on a style you like, they will have an image of the series installed in a room. Here you can click and see what they used to create the wall paneling, ceiling detail or window or door trims. This helps us as designers to know what type of moulding we need to create that particular design.
