FLOORING - TODAY'S INSPIRATION
A question we are commonly asked is “what is the perfect flooring product?” The possibilities are a solid plank hardwood, an engineered hardwood product, hard surface-like tile, or even a luxury vinyl plank… and the list goes on. To be fair, not one choice is the perfect fit for all homes and all users.
An engineered Hardwood floor product is typically our go-to when choosing a floor for a residential home in our office. It’s a warm, natural material with a wide range of styles, sizes, and finishes. These products can be nailed, glued, and even installed floating in some applications (always check the manufacturer’s recommendations and specifications). Whether you want a rich walnut look with character or a clean modern white washed oak, engineered wood products offer that and everything in between. When selection a flooring you need to think of the substrate, (what’s below the good looking stuff). Will it be placed on concrete or plywood, and are we adding in a radiant or heated flooring systems? Also consider how the main floor will connect with the stairs. What do you want the stairs to look like? We know, we know—lots to think about.
We fell in love with the flooring at our Main + 25th Project and we worked closely with a our local supplier Divine Flooring. The soft natural wood tones paired with the light walls and millwork really compliment each other—and wow, check out that stair detail! This new construction home was missing charm and focal points as an open concept space. However, with the detailing of the coffered ceiling to bring definition to the space, it creates a statement piece for the stairs.
A trend that is becoming increasingly popular in flooring is patterns. Floors are becoming a lot more exciting, if not the feature of a room. How can you achieve this with wood planks? Try a fun herringbone or chevron pattern! Divine Flooring’s cosmopolitan collection offers a beautiful chevron pattern in two of their best-selling colours to work well with any space. We recently completed the 221 A Street "Farm House project”, and worked closely with Divine Flooring’s project management team to ensure we added lots of charm to this standard urban box home. We added herringbone flooring just below the dining room table to ground and showcase this timeless space. This detail is subtle but makes a big difference with layering all elements of the home. Hardwood flooring and engineered flooring products sometimes cannot fit the desired maintenance or budge for a home owner. Looking for a more budget friendly option to achieve this look? Try Divine’s luxury vinyl collections. Not only does it embody the beautiful characteristics of wood, it will hold up to spills, scratches and scuffs as well.
They also have a couple chevron vinyl collections as a great alternate to hardwood. Take a look at Divine Flooring’s N.Y. and L.A. collections to see for yourself! These are fresh off the presses and a game changer in the luxury flooring market and we can not wait to use this product.
Divine’s Luxury Vinyl Collection is a great alternative for young, busy families and those that like to entertain. When you think of vinyl plank flooring, quality and the “real wood look” might not come to mind. However, we have installed this product in many residential homes and its perfect for the entire home including laundry rooms, bathrooms and even below grade basement spaces.
